What is ‘ All’Arrabiata’?

If you are wondering, what ‘ All’Arrabiata’ means (wish I could say I knew what it was but I also had to rely on Dr. Google), ‘Arrabbiata’ is a spicy sauce for pasta made from garlic, tomatoes, and dried red chili peppers cooked in olive oil. The word ‘arrabbiata’ means “angry” in Italian, referring to the spiciness of the chilli peppers. So if you’re like me and had no idea, then you’ve learnt something new!

My first time trying All’Arrabbiata

This recipe was inspired by a visit to an Italian restaurant in Taupo. At the time, I was craving a delicious tomato based pasta.I saw on the menu that there was an easy vegan option, Penne Arrabbiata. The waitress later said to me that since it is a vegan dish, it will have to be served with spaghetti instead of penne, which didn’t make a difference to me! Spaghetti All’Arrabbiata it is. Long story short, the dish was simple but amazing and I knew I had to re-create it at home.

I don’t know about you but whenever I’m out and I eat something delicious, I ALWAYS want to re-create it at home. It’s like a personal challenge for me. So as I ate this beautiful meal at the restaurant, I tried my best to memorise all the different components. Then, with the help of the menu I was able to come up with the recipe.

Spaghetti All’Arrabiata

Ingredients
  

  • 500 g Spaghetti
  • 1/3 cup Olive oil
  • 2 large Bell peppers (1 red, 1 green, finely diced)
  • 4 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 2 cups Tomato passata
  • 4 Tbsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Dried oregano
  • 9 Olives (pitted and roughly chopped)
